Mavericks Add Three Players at Semester Break

OMAHA, Neb. – Fresh off the program's first Summit League post season berth and first ever Top 25 national ranking,  Omaha men's soccer head coach Jason Mims is already preparing for the 2016 season, and on Thursday he announced the addition of three players for the spring semester. The signings included a pair of Iowa products in Elvir Ibisevic and Seth Rinderknecht as well as local product Joey McCain.Â
"We are always looking for ways to improve our team and having three additions at semester is a great start to the New Year," commented Mims. "All three of these student-athletes have shown great work ethic and commitment graduating high school a semester early to start their academic and athletic careers here in Omaha."
Ibisevic, a 6-3 center forward, announced his signing earlier in August 2015. He has made two appearances for the United States' U-17 national team and plays club soccer for Sporting Iowa. He has also represented Sporting Kansas City's academy team on number of occasions. As a sophomore at Johnston High School, Ibisevic scored 20 goals for the Dragons. He missed his junior season as was part of the US National Team residency program in Bradenton, Fla.
Rinderknecht, a 6-4 centerback, also comes to Omaha from a winning background. The former Cedar Rapids Prairie High School standout led his club team, CRSA, to four straight Iowa State Cup championships. Rinderknecht earned first team all-state honors during his junior season at Prairie. He has also been a member of the Region II ODP team and captained the team during its international tour of Costa Rica.
McCain, a 5-9 fullback, will be joining UNO after graduating early from Papillion LaVista South High School. The defender has been a member of four-straight Nebraska State Cup Championship teams, including the last two with the Omaha Football Club. Last season, he earned second team all-state and all-metro honors. During his high school career, McCain had 18 points on six goals and six assists in 37 games. Joey will be joining his brother, Jake who will be entering his senior season, on the Mavericks roster this spring.
Mims added, "We want players that are driven, passionate, and want to be successful within a positive team environment. We look forward to working with them and having them integrated with our Omaha team right away."
The trio will be joining the program at the start of classes in January, while the rest of the 2016 recruiting class will be announced later this spring. The Mavericks will kick-off the spring practices in January with a slate of spring games to be released later.
