Omaha earns two major awards, name four players to First Team, one to Second Team, and four to Newcomer Team.
Mavericks Collect Two Major Awards and Nine All-Summit Nods

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha men's soccer picked up two major Summit League awards and nine All-Summit nods on three different teams, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. Hugo Kametani was named the Newcomer of the year, while Fitzroy Cummings earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Of the major awards, Kametani's award is the third Newcomer of the Year award Omaha has won in program history. Cummings' Defensive Player of the Year award is the first the Mavericks have ever earned. The four players on the First Team and All-Newcomer Team also marks the most representation since the 2017 season.

In addition to Newcomer of the Year, Kametani was also named to the All-Summit First Team and the All-Newcomer Team. Kametani leads Omaha and the league with seven goals on the year. He adds an assist for 15 points. The Kashima, Japan native has two Player of the Week honors this year. Kametani netted two goals for the Mavericks in the program's first win vs. Creighton, and he scored the golden goal to upset Oral Roberts.

Cummings was also named to the All-Summit First Team and All-Newcomer Team in addition to his Defensive Player of the Year award. Cummings has logged over 800 minutes on the pitch this season and started all nine matches. He's helped Omaha post four shutouts as a core piece of the back line. The Clarendon, Jamaica native has totaled six shots and three on goal.

Nil Ayats was named All-Summit First Team. Ayats has four goals and four assists this season for 12 points. The senior midfielder was named the Offensive Player of the Week following the Western Illinois series. Ayats scored three goals and recorded five shots and four shots on goal over the two games. He netted the game winner in game one. Ayats has 19 shots and 12 on goal through the regular season.

Stevie Siy also earned All-Summit First Team accolades. It marks the second time in his career that Siy has earned all-league honors of some sort. The senior defended helped the Mavericks post four shutouts over six starts this season and 538 minutes. He has two assists, three shots, and one shot on goal over six games played.

Kenji Mboma Dem is the lone Maverick on the All-Summit Second Team. He was also named to the All-Newcomer team. Mboma Dem made seven starts this season and logged over 500 minutes on the pitch. He scored his first career-goal vs. Eastern Illinois on March 18. The freshman forward is on a three-game scoring streak with a goal in each game vs. the Panthers and at Kansas City. Mboma Dem has totaled one assist, 20 shots, and 10 on goal over seven games.

Ed Port is the final Maverick earning all-league recognition. The Reading, England native has started every match for Omaha this year logging nearly 600 minutes on the pitch. Port netted the game winner vs. Creighton helping the Mavericks to their historic win. He's totaled three assists, eight shots, and four shots on goal over his nine starts.

The Mavericks return to action next week in the NCAA Tournament following the Summit League announcement Tuesday morning that Omaha will be the league's representation. Omaha will play UNC-Greensboro at UNC-Greensboro in the opening round on Thursday, April 29 at 5 p.m. CT.
