Final Stats
San Jose, Calif. - The UNO men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the San Jose State Spartans on Sunday at Spartan Stadium.
San Jose State (2-1-1) scored goals in the 26th and 59th minutes to secure the win. The Mavs (1-4) put three shots on goal but failed to put one by Spartan keeper Jonathan Lester.
Roberto Casteneda put the Spartans up in the first half on a strike into the lower left corner of the net from the top of the 18-yard box.
The Spartans added an insurance goal in the 59th minute when Steve Sanchez received a pass from the left wing and chipped a close shot over Maverick keeper Josh Christensen.
Jake Moran, Jordan Gealy and Mo Salama had shots on goal for UNO. The Spartans outshot UNO 13-9 overall and 7-3 in shots on frame.
The Mavs will have a two-week break now before playing their second of three home games this season. Mercer will come to Omaha on Friday, Sept. 23, to face the Mavericks at Werner Park at 7 p.m.
