RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UNO men's soccer team dominated the final 15 minutes of its match at No. 25 UC Riverside on Sunday, but the Highlanders staved off the Maverick threat for a 1-0 win in the Mavs' final game at the Courtyard by Marriott Highlander Invitational.

Omaha (2-4) outshot the Highlanders (7-0) 6-1 in the final 15 minutes of the match, including a hit post by Emir Alihodzic in the 85th minute. But despite the pressure, UC Riverside was able to escape with the one-goal victory.

Riverside's Jimmy Martinez scored the game's only goal in the 41st minute when he got past the defense and received a flicked pass from Otis Earle and finished it.

The Mavs got off to a good start, as Alihodzic and Jesus Perez forced saves in the first 15 minutes of the match. In the 24th minute, UC Riverside was awarded a penalty kick, but Matt Grosey made a save on Jose Diaz's shot to keep the score level.

After halftime, Logan Mendez had a shot turned away by Highlander goalie Ashkan Khosravi in the 50th minute.

The Mavs controlled play throughout most of the second half, but especially turned the pressure up in the late stages in search of the tying goal. Cody Thayer had a header go over the crossbar in the 80th minute. At 80:27, Joe Marinkovich forced a save by Khosravi, and two minutes later Alihodzic missed left of the net. At 84:03, Alihodzic hit the post, and less than a minute later Vance Rookwood missed left. The Mavs' final shot attempt came in the 87th minute, but Jake Linden's effort went right of the target.

For the match, UC Riverside outshot UNO 15-14 overall and 7-4 in shots on goal. Matt Grosey finished with six saves. The Highlanders did not have a shot on goal in the final 49 minutes of the match, as UNO's backline of Houston Hoffman, Felipe da Silva, Mo Salama and Jordan Gealy effectively turned away the Highlander attack.

Following the tournament, Hoffman, Giovanni Giattino and Craig Buettner were named to the all-tournament team.
