OMAHA, Neb. -Â The Omaha men's soccer team visits Green Bay on Monday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. for the Mavericks' final exhibition match before the regular season starts next week.
First Touches
•   Omaha dropped its exhibition opener 2-1 against Creighton on Saturday in front of 3,948 fans at Caniglia Field.
•   Seven Mavericks made their first appearance in a Maverick uniform on Saturday evening.
•   Omaha is coming off its third season of 10 or more wins since 2011.
•   Last year marked the first time in program history that Omaha has tallied consecutive 10-win seasons.
•   The returning quartet of Fred Frimpong, Miguel Gomez, Diego Gutierrez and Cole Nelson accounted for five goals and nine assists a year ago.
•   Of Omaha's 10 wins last year, seven came by way of the shutout including three in league play.  The seven clean sheets were one shy of the program record set in 2014 (8).
•   Bob Warming is entering his first season with Omaha.
Returning Mavericks
Omaha returns 17 players from last season's National Tournament team including five starters. Â Returning for the Mavericks are senior captain Cole Nelson and two-time First Team All-Summit League selection Seth Rinderknecht. Â Miguel Gomez, Diego Gutierrez and Stevie Siy all return for their sophomore campaign. Â The trio combined for three goals and eight assists in 2017.
Also back in 2018 are five players with plenty of experience on the pitch. Â Senior Denzel Woods has made 30 career starts for the Mavericks, while junior goalkeeper Ugo Tritz went 2-0-0 last season with a pair of shutouts. Â Juniors Fred Frimpong (2g) and Ethan Bowman (2a) and sophomore Ed Gordon (1a) also return for the Mavericks.
Fresh Faces
The Mavericks added four transfers and seven first-year student-athletes to its roster for 2018. Â Marcos Bautista transfers to Omaha after two years at Green Bay, while Jeremy Pollard comes from a year at Grand Canyon. Â Mitch Hammer played one season at Oregon State, and Zach Robbins redshirted last season at Tulsa.
Miguel Curiel, Adrian Felix, Youde (Junior) Noutoua, Pierce O'Brien and David Salazar all played their prep careers in Nebraska. Â Nil Ayats and Martin Veys join the Mavericks after playing for clubs in Spain and France.
Scouting the Phoenix
Last season, Green Bay finished 9-5-3 with a 7-1-1 mark in Horizon League play. Â The Phoenix captured the league's regular-season crown before falling 2-0 in the conference tournament final to Illinois-Chicago.
Green Bay will be paced this season by junior Tomer Zloczower who finished 2017 with 18 points on five goals and eight assists. Â Robleh Omar and Brady Lenius each finished last season with two goals and an assist. Â Goalkeeper Nikola Kahvedzic was 7-4-2 last season with 51 saves and a 1.14 goals-against average.
Head coach Jeremy Bonomo, the 2017 Horizon League Coach of the Year, enters his fourth season leading the Phoenix and has an 18-26-8 mark. Â Bonomo owns a 39-48-19 career mark over seven seasons.
